about

My music was once criticized for "doing stuff"...by this I mean that someone complained that my music "did too much" or was "too active"...whatever that means...whoever said it was probably right. Regardless of whether this is true or not, for a composer, this can be a very inconvenient habit, as sometimes you need to back away and "say less." In this track I try to say very little and just let one moment just sort of resist happening for a little while. Then does it happen at the end? Or did it happen already? I don't know. As Kurt Cobain once said, "It's your jigsaw puzzle now."

This moment was originally produced for Jennifer Kayle's Dance Improvisation class at the University of Iowa on March 29, 2016.
